As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Bryland Fire Protection is proud to celebrate the people who continue to grow and develop their careers through apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are not only a pathway into the industry for new starters – they also provide valuable opportunities for existing team members to build new skills, gain recognised qualifications and progress within their roles.
One example of this is Lisa Clark, who is currently completing an apprenticeship as part of her development within her new role at Bryland Fire. Her experience highlights how apprenticeships can support career progression while combining practical learning with real workplace experience.
A practical approach to learning and development
For Lisa, choosing an apprenticeship was about finding a learning pathway that aligned with her role and allowed her to develop skills in a practical and meaningful way.
“I chose an apprenticeship because it offered a more practical, hands-on way to learn while gaining experience within my new role at Bryland Fire,” she explains. “I liked the idea of gaining real workplace experience and developing skills that are directly relevant to the job, rather than focusing mainly on theory.”
The opportunity to gain a recognised qualification while continuing to work and develop professionally made the decision a natural one.
“It also provides clear progression opportunities,” Lisa adds, highlighting how apprenticeships can support long-term career growth within the fire protection industry.
A proud moment and a new chapter
Lisa’s apprenticeship journey began when her manager put her forward for the opportunity – a moment that marked the start of a new stage in her career.
“My manager put me forward for the apprenticeship and I felt proud to be offered such an opportunity,” she says. “I’m looking forward to the next stage of my learning journey and excited for what the future holds within Bryland and the Obsequio Group.”
That sense of recognition and support is an important part of professional development, reinforcing the value of investing in people as they grow within the business.
Support and balance along the way
One of the biggest surprises for Lisa has been how naturally the apprenticeship fits alongside her day-to-day responsibilities.
“How easy the apprenticeship fit in with my normal working life,” she explains when reflecting on her biggest learning moment so far.
Equally important has been the support she has received from colleagues across the business.
“The support I received from my peers and colleagues throughout the course gave me motivation to do my best and achieve the results I believe I am capable of.”
This collaborative environment plays a key role in helping apprentices succeed, ensuring they feel encouraged and supported throughout their learning journey.
Looking ahead to the next milestone
As Lisa progresses through her apprenticeship, she is focused on reaching an important milestone – Gateway EPA – which represents both achievement and the culmination of hard work and commitment.
“Getting through to Gateway EPA is a real sense of achievement,” she says. “You can see the end of the journey and all the hard work and effort I have put in – the end is in sight.”
Looking ahead, Lisa is aiming high.
“I’m striving for a distinction result and continuing my career progression with Bryland.”
Advice for future apprentices
For anyone considering an apprenticeship as part of their own career development, Lisa’s advice is simple and encouraging.
“Go for it – it’s a great way to learn whilst earning a salary and building your own career path.”
Her experience demonstrates that apprenticeships are not limited to those starting out in their careers, but can also be a powerful tool for development, progression and long-term success within the fire protection industry.
Investing in people at Bryland Fire
Lisa’s journey reflects Bryland Fire’s commitment to supporting learning, development and career progression across the business. Apprenticeships provide a structured way for individuals to grow their knowledge and confidence while continuing to contribute to the delivery of high-quality fire protection services.
As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we’re proud of the dedication shown by colleagues like Lisa and the positive impact apprenticeships continue to have across Bryland and the wider Obsequio Group.
