As with most businesses these days, intellectual property has an equal if not greater value than the products that they produce, and as the vast majority of this data is electronically stored, then protecting that investment and against future loss of data is of paramount importance.
When one of Bryland Fire Protection’s major blue chip clients GE identified a risk on one of their sites, it was up to Bryland to guard against that risk. They have many important engineering contracts and it was therefore not only important to guard against their own fire risks, but to meet the expectations of their customers.
The risk in question was their Server Room, as with the loss of most data, it would lead to months of disruption. Bryland suggested the use of 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid to protect the space. Its 20 year “Blue Sky Warranty” meant that the customer would not have to worry about phasing out or banning of the Fire Suppressant media and could be safe in the knowledge that it would be fine for the foreseeable future. This combined with 3M Novec 1230 fluid’s enhanced sustainability credentials made it the perfect choice.
One 32 litre 3M Novec 1230 fluid Fire Suppressant cylinder was installed which contained 19 Kg of 3M Novec 1230 fluid.
A cross zoned, “Coincidence” detection system was installed which looks for an activation from two out of the four smoke detectors installed. When that signal is proved, a short countdown is started that results in the NOVEC 1230 being released. The Design Concentration of 3M Novec 1230 fluid in the room was designed to be 5.6% as set out in BS6266:2011 and also is recommended by 3M.

In fact the customer was so happy, we have received lots more orders for various Fire Alarm works on site and now we even maintain their Site Fire Alarm, Fire Extinguishers and we are even looking after their Fire Risk Assessment for them.
