Leading F1 Teams’ new facility protected by Bryland Fire using revolutionary 42 Bar Tyco Sapphire NOVEC 1230 technology!
When Bryland Fire were charged with protecting the new Test Area of a newly, purpose built, UK F1 testing facility, the natural thought with the recent announcements on the restriction in manufacturing of FM200 (HFC227ea), was to use 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid. With its 20 year 3M™ Blue SkySM Warranty guaranteeing that there will be no restriction on its use based on global warming potential or ozone depletion potential for a minimum of the next 20 years.
The next challenge for Bryland was a technical one. The customer requested that the cylinders be located in a basement cylinder store below the area that is protected. With a standard 24 Bar NOVEC system this gave problems with the pipe lengths that are possible and nozzle coverage, so TYCO used their 42 Bar Sapphire system using 3M Novec 1230 fluid. The largest 42 Bar system that they have supplied in the country no less!
14 Cylinders with almost 2400 Kg of 3M Novec 1230 fluid were installed, all with their own individual pipework system and discharging nozzles, covering the Test Cell area and also the basement cylinder store. This was combined with conventional “coincidence” Smoke Detection to activate the 3M Novec 1230 fluid discharge and protect the space and the future of the team!
Working for this customer, in this application, could be called the project of a lifetime, and Bryland took it in our stride. The 42 Bar Tyco Sapphire System using 3M Novec 1230 Fluid was a massive help and it gave us the option of much longer pipe runs when considering the cylinder positions – especially when the cylinders are in the basement! A very exacting client made this a thoroughly enjoyable and challenging project.
