Project:

Gas Suppression Cover &
Fire Protection

Client:

Nottinghamshire Police
HQ

When Notts police realised that they should have some Fire Suppression in their Radio Communications Room and their Computer Room Facility, they turned to Bryland Fire to provide the Gas Suppression cover.

In a joint project with Kidde UK, a multiway Argonite (IG55) inert system was installed, that cleverly protects two different rooms with one set of Argonite (IG55) cylinders – using two diverter valves that will “divert” the gas into the room where it is required. In addition to the main system, a smaller single cylinder Argonite (IG55) system was installed to protect the lobby area of the two rooms.

As part of the project there were also other works to do such as installation of VESDA HSSD systems, renewal of all of the lighting in all of the rooms and also the supply and fitting of both Over Pressure Venting systems and also Gas Extraction systems for both of the Fire Suppressed rooms. Quite a long and involving project, it took some very careful planning, as the 24/7 operation of the Emergency Call Centre for the whole of Nottinghamshire Police was above it. Noise was very much an unwelcomed addition. The careful planning of drilling works and the like made sure that the Call Centre was not affected.

“This system designed in conjunction with Kidde’s engineers brings the best of both worlds – a halving of the cylinder number on site whilst maintaining the integrity of the Fire Suppression. An absolute joy of a project to work on and an honour to support the great works that the police do!”
